Earlier this month Rick and I traveled west to visit old friends--actually, the founder of this book group and her husband. They live in the Portland area and we had a wonderful time. She and I spent a couple of hours at Powell's bookstore, a huge and fun store in downtown Portland that carries both used and new books. I restrained myself and only bought one small book for the online Spanish class I am currently taking. Anyway, I wanted a book to read for the trip because of the long flights involved in getting there. I used Squeaky Clean Reads and found the book The Forgotten Garden. I loved the story! It is about a young woman's quest to discover her lineage and it alternates between her story and those of people who were part of her grandmother's (unknown) past.

Well, we changed our ISP which means I needed to change the book group website. I like the look of this one. I thought I would use a blog to share thoughts from our discussions. I missed last week's meeting (rare for me) and I truly MISSED it. I heard that you had an animated discussion with several who were totally disgusted with the Tiger Mother and some not so disgusted. I, personally, have never had the energy to parent with the intensity that she does.

AuthorMy name is Elizabeth. I love to read. In college I took speed reading and kept a list of everything I read (I wish I could find that list!). As a teen I would read under the blankets half the night. As a child I first patronized the book mobile and later read entire sections of books from the school library. Now, with dozens of books on my "want to read" list, I tend to doze off if I read at night and I am usually in the middle of several books at one time. Archives
