One other little observation: Louis L'Amour's heroes are often avid readers with some classical book in their saddlebag!
I admit it. I am a closet Louis L'Amour fan. Well, maybe not so closet. I debated including this book on my blog. I know L"Amour's novels are not really great literature. But, I enjoy them. The good guy always wins. He has integrity, high morals, works hard and respects women. He usually, but not always, wins the heart of a worthy woman. He earns the loyalty of his friends, who are willing to back him in all he does. He fights for right against all odds and against men seeking power, fame, glory and wealth. He stands up for the weak and elderly and down-trodden. Sometimes he is actually a lawman, usually he is a cowboy. He is often a reluctant gunfighter or he can win a physical fight against a more powerful opponent. The books never have bad language or sexual content. They are fast reads. My dad always wore cowboy boots, had a cowboy hat and loved John Wayne movies. Many of my growing up years were in western Nebraska. I guess I just enjoy getting lost in a story of a western hero! The hero's name in this story was Barnabas Pike. He won the hand of Ann Farley and triumphed over the wicked Roman Bohlen.

AuthorMy name is Elizabeth. I love to read. In college I took speed reading and kept a list of everything I read (I wish I could find that list!). As a teen I would read under the blankets half the night. As a child I first patronized the book mobile and later read entire sections of books from the school library. Now, with dozens of books on my "want to read" list, I tend to doze off if I read at night and I am usually in the middle of several books at one time. Archives
